Kemmy's ASDFJDGDHIDGKpart

Paddy and the Rats - Drunken Sailor
This was pretty much on a continuous loop while I was drawing him. .w. So far my favorite of the many interpretations of this song I've heard.
I'm so glad I've been listening to a lot of Flogging Molly and Paddy and the Rats lately, they really put me in the mood for drawing pirates again. :) Pirates and older men. Yay. .w.
Even though they're supposed to be playing irish jigs with a rockish/punkish edge, whaddaheck.

If there's something I've learned before last year's Talk Like a Pirate Day, it's the special terms pirates describe themselves with. "Old Salt" is a kind of honorable way to describe an older sailor, and I think a pirate is considered old after he starts getting grey hairs. (Not like it's a common thing on the sea...)

This is for sort of a chibi-trade between my beluff'd friend, =Kemmasandi and I- this is my half, her character, (the still dashing) Lilian Maldive. :heart:w:heart:
And I must say, this might be the most... interesting chibi to ever come out from under my hands. For my second time drawing an older character, I'm pretty proud of myself, actually. :)
I just hope Kemmy likes it, and I managed to draw him in justice... I'd rather kick myself than mess up a great design like his. XD

Without further ado,
Lilian belongs to =Kemmasandi (HNNNNGH of jealousy. ;w; )
Art by yours truly.
(And this is just half of the full size. I can hear you crying, Hard Drive, I know you can't take much more of this abuse, but I can't do much for you. ;A; )

What a refreshing version on a chibi!

One of the first things that I noticed about this piece was the definition in the neck. This is refreshing because usually chibis like to completely omit necks. The pose looks really natural and balanced. I wish I could see his right arm, though. I love the definition in the left hand, though!
You seem to have put extra care into the facial features and hair, and I wish that carried into his clothing, mainly his shoes. In comparison to his shirt, the shoes seem like amorphous blobs. The design on the bottom of the coat is nice, but it feels a bit flat. I think adding some dimensionality to the right sleeve of the coat (the one we see--his left) would be beneficial. The sleeves feel like they would be cotton. It's cool how you produced an effect that registered that kind of feeling.
Overall, I know this critique has been all over the place, but I think you have a lot of good things going on here. I can tell you love focusing on details, and I think if you put that kind of attention into every area of the figure, your work would be that much better. Awesome!
